Tooth Extraction Tampa

Reduce the Pain Associated with a Tooth Extraction to a Minimum in Tampa

Having a tooth extracted is not something that everyone will need to do in Tampa.  A tooth is extracted when the health of the tooth has been compromised beyond repair or your teeth are overcrowding.  If you are in a situation where you need a tooth extracted contact Dr. Grellner DDS, PA.  As a board certified maxillofacial surgeon, Dr. Grellner has extensive training and will perform an extraction that reduces any discomfort to an absolute minimum.  Having dedicated his career to the field of dentistry and oral surgery Dr. Grellner is recognized as a leader in the field by patients and colleagues. With over 30 years of extraction experience you can rest assured knowing that your extraction will be performed by an expert in the field. After your extraction, he can replace lost back teeth with dental implants.

Why is Dr. Grellner the Best Choice for A Tooth Extraction in Tampa?

  • Dr. Grellner, DDS, PA.  is an oral and maxillofacial surgeon that has extensive experience, education, and training in tooth extractions.

  • As an oral and maxillofacial surgeon, Dr. Grellner has completed formal medical training that includes dental school and hospital residency programs focusing on the bone, skin and muscle of the face, jaw, and mouth, including:
    • Undergraduate: Washington University

    • Certificate of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery

  • With any surgery there is a certain amount of risk of complications. With over 30 years as an oral and maxillofacial surgeon, Dr. Grellner is better equipped to manage complications such as infection, sinus issues and bleeding.

  • Kinder surgery results in a much more comfortable and less complicated recovery. This comes, in part, from experience and attention to detail.

  • Much more advanced anesthesia resulting in a recovery from anesthesia that is amazingly quick. No lengthy recovery, many fewer side effects upon discharge than ever seen before, and the ability to be more productive later in the day that would have previously been devoted to sleep and “awareness-avoidance”.

4 Step Tooth Extraction Procedure

Tooth Extraction Tampa

Whether you choose to remain awake or go to sleep to be unaware of the extraction procedure, the choice is yours (if you are healthy enough to do so). It would be wise to make your anesthetic choice based on the potential difficulty of your extraction to have the best experience. Dr. Grellner can help you make this choice. If you are planning to replace this tooth with a dental implant, to avoid having to shave the adjacent teeth down for a bridge, please let us know before your tooth is removed. If we can record the position of the tooth with our high-tech CEREC equipment, it will help us to reproduce it’s position later with an implant.

You also need to be aware of time limitations. After the tooth is removed, while the tooth socket is filling in with new bone, the outer bone surface will already be starting to melt away! Because of this, the ideal time to place the implant is about 3 months after the extraction when the socket will have filled with new bone. Since this natural process of bone melting away can’t be stopped, the longer you delay getting your implant, the more difficult it may be for you to do so as the jaw ridge narrows and shortens in height. The upper sinus will even start dropping down into the area where the upper molar roots were to reduce bone height even more. It is a crazy process, but one that you unfortunately can’t ignore.

While bone grafting techniques are constantly improving with technology, the results are not at a point where they are 100% predictable, so the less you need grafted the more successful your implant result will be. The bone of your jaw is a precious substance that can easily be lost, be it due to infection of gum or tooth, or simply due to loss of the tooth root that stimulated it to keep it’s width and height healthy.

Finally, there are other changes that can occur after tooth loss that add to the complexity of tooth replacement that we can’t go into here. It would be best to simply accept that problems will multiply. Bottom line: the longer you wait, the harder and more expensive the process can become as bone melts away. You will get your best result by planning from the beginning to get your implant soon after the socket has healed.

Had multiple extractions at one time: wisdom teeth (3rd molars) and additional teeth for orthodontics. Went under general anesthesia and did not feel a thing. I left the consultation feeling very comfortable and felt confident with them. I was highly satisfied with the outcome. Delightful front office staff and amazing surgical assistants. I would highly recommend Dr. Grellner with his many years of experience and care.
