Because of this, the ideal time to place the implant is about 3 months after the extraction when the socket will have filled with new bone. The upper sinus will even start dropping down into the area where the upper molar roots were to reduce bone height even more. It is a crazy process, but one that you unfortunately can’t ignore.
While bone grafting techniques are constantly improving with technology, the results are not at a point where they are 100% predictable, so the less you need grafted the more successful your implant result will be. The bone of your jaw is a precious substance that can easily be lost, be it due to infection of gum or tooth, or simply due to loss of the tooth root that stimulated it to keep it’s width and height healthy.
Finally, there are other changes that can occur after tooth loss that add to the complexity of tooth replacement that we can’t go into here. It would be best to simply accept that problems will multiply. Bottom line: the longer you wait, the harder and more expensive the process can become as bone melts away. You will get your best result by planning from the beginning to get your implant soon after the socket has healed.
